ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) on Monday heard the parliamentarians’ dual nationality case and suspended the National Assembly (NA) membership of PPP’s Zahid Iqbal, Geo News reported.
A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the case.
Zahid Iqbal, who was elected from Sahiwal constituency, was asked to present his passport in the court but he did not follow the orders on which his National Assembly membership was suspended by the court.
PML-N MPA Jamil Awan appeared before the court and admitted that he has dual nationalities while MPA Tariq Alwana denied the allegations against him and requested for more time.
The court ordered to re-issue notices to MNA Farhat Mahmood Khan, MPA Nadia Gabol, Ashraf Chouhan, Wasim Qadir and Nadeem Khan to submit their documents again.
Later, the hearing was adjourned till July 2, 2012.
It is pertinent to mention that the SC had already suspended PPP’s Farahnaz Ispahani and Senator Rehman Malik’s NA membership for having dual citizenships.
